Bloor-Yorkville's Icefest 2014

This past Saturday, my cousin Cindy and I met up to take part in "Ice Fest", where ice sculpture competitions took place. The temperature was about 3 degrees Celsius above 0, but the organizers were able to keep the sculptures cool. We took this opportunity to practice our photography skills and to catch up together.

Equipment:
Camera: Canon EOS Rebel SL1 f 18-55 mm
Edited with: Adobe Lightroom 5

I tried to keep in mind things I had learned from photography composition: specifically rule of thirds, including textures, patterns, and perspectives. I'm hoping that with more practice I can get better

001. The Theme: "Heat Wave": All of the sculptures were related to something tropical.

Lonely Hearts Valentine's Potluck

I've been feeling really sick this past week, and finally took a day off to recover (I slept the entire day, fluids, meds, etc.). As a result I had to postpone a potluck I had planned for VDay but nonetheless it went off without a hitch!

We don't take Valentine's Day too seriously, and take the "hallmark" holiday as an excuse to get together with good friends and have some good food.

I hosted an "anti-Valentine's" day potluck at my condo. I put together the facebook event and titled it "Lonely Hearts" (a homage to Marina and the Diamonds song, "Lonely Hearts Club"), the tagline was "for singles, couples and the confused".

Blue and Yellow Bridal Shower

I've been practicing with my SLR camera as much as possible recently. I've gotten better with taking macro photos with bokeh effect, however, "scenery" photos are much more challenging. I have an upcoming trip to Asia; so I want to be able to take good scenic photos.

I used the program Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 to fix the highlights, shadows, and exposure.

Delectable Marinated Chicken

This is perhaps one of the easiest recipes I've ever done, EVER. The flavour was rich, and chicken super moist. There are a lot of unique ingredients but its easy to put together.

Charlie, the bunny burrito

{source: boy girl rabbit}

Charlie has reached of age, and we took him to the vet to get neutered. He's a very hyper, anxious little bunny and seems to be very nervous in new environments. I draped a towel over him and he calmed down immediately:

Before Surgery

After Surgery

The surgery went successfully! He's recovering quite nicely and is back to his usual self. Something we noticed however, was that he started chewing on our wires (which we've tried hiding from plan sight but he managed to get on) - this is a behaviour he has never done before.

We were given three days worth of an anti-inflammatory (Meloxicam), strangely it was chicken flavoured, I'm not sure why. Hopefully there was no actual chicken.

We have also attempted to reunite them, and it took 5 days before the hormones from his system cleared before we can reunite them without inappropriate behaviour taking place.

Cheers!

Cosplay as Mulan: Inspiration

I'll be attending my first ever Costume Con and I've been trying for the longest time to figure out what I wanted to cosplay as. There are some amazing cosplayers, but with me being a beginner I wanted to try something simple.

Inspiration for Mulan Cosplay

I am attending 3 days of the conference and am planning on a different costume for each day. I was toying with different ideas (Laura Croft - not really "me"; Harley Quinn - too sexy). The inspiration came to me while catching up on season 3 of "Once Upon a Time". The series features different fairy tale characters and one of the characters if Fa Mulan played by Jamie Chung.
